Many companies sponsor matching gift programs that will match a charitable contribution made by an employee to a qualified nonprofit organization. Some companies will even double or triple their matching gift! Donors may include retired employees, spouses, or widowed employees as well as currently employee personnel.
To find out if your company participates in a matching gift program, contact your Human Resources Department or Business Office. They will be able to establish eligibility and provide you will the proper forms and guidelines to follow.
The matching gifts process has two important steps:
- Registration of the donation by the employee/donor
- Verification by the school/organization
As an employee of a firm without a matching gift program, you may want to see if one can be established as a way of demonstrating the commitment of that business to charitable organizations.
